Police are warning residents to be vigilant after two attempted distraction burglaries in Aldershot.
On Thursday, July 30 two men visited two addresses in Denmark Square claiming to be there to check the water.
On both occasions one of the men distracted the resident and the other searched the property. However nothing was stolen.
The first man is described as:
- White
- 5ft 9ins tall
- 19 years old
- Clean shaven
- Blue eyes
- Short, fair hair
- Local accent
- Slim build
- Wearing a blue/grey jumper and trousers
The second man is described as:
- White
- Around 5ft 8ins tall
- 19 years old
- Clean shaven
- Short, dark hair
- Stocky build
- Wearing dark clothing and had a bandage on his right arm
PC Sarah Moyce-Philips, of the Aldershot Priority Crime Team, said: “Distraction burglary is a despicable crime and offenders often prey on the more vulnerable residents in our communities.
“Residents are reminded to always check identification of visitors before inviting them into their homes.
“Anyone with information about these incidents or anyone who saw two men in the area matching the descriptions should contact us as soon as possible.”
Hampshire Constabulary offers the following Safer Homes advice:
- Stop – are you expecting anyone to call on you? Do you know the person at the door? Don’t be misled by what appear to be genuine reasons for calling on you.
- Chain – fit a door chain or spy hole so that you can speak to callers or check who they are without opening the door fully.
- Check – A genuine caller will carry identification and will be happy to wait outside while you check it. Remember to source your own number for the company they are claiming to be from.
Burglars can make you believe they are genuine callers. Don't invite them in. If in doubt, keep them out!
