Shoppers in North Hampshire are being shown first-hand the devastation that can be caused by driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
As part of Hampshire Constabulary’s winter drink and drug-drive campaign, police are using a car wreck to bring home the message.
Officers from the Farnborough Roads Policing unit will take the wreck to Farnborough, Aldershot, Tadley, Basingstoke and Winchester in the run-up to Christmas.
Sergeant John Dainton said: “The wreck is a reminder of what could happen to you if you take the risk of driving under the influence.
“Even if you survived a crash like this, it would still ruin your life and those of other road users involved.
“By bringing the wreck into our town centres, people will be able to see first-hand the devastation that can be caused.”
Should they be driving? Text 80 999 to let us know
Sgt Dainton continued: “If you think someone’s drink or drug-driving, you can help prevent something like this happening by texting us their details to 80 999.
“We treat all information confidentially, so for the cost of a text you could save the life of someone you love.”
The wreck will be on display between 8am and 4pm at the following locations:
- Friday, December 18 – Farnborough Gate Retail park
- Saturday, December 19 – Tesco’s, Wellington Avenue, Aldershot
- Sunday, December 20 – Sainsbury’s, Mulford’s Hill, Tadley
- Monday, December 21 – Winchester Guildhall
