Police in Hook are reminding local adults about the risks of buying alcohol for people under the age of 18.
On Friday, October 31 officers from the Hook Safer Neighbourhoods team who were out on patrol found a 17-year-old boy in possession of a large amount of alcohol. It was traced back to a store in London Road and on viewing CCTV the officers found an 18-year-old man had bought the alcohol and then handed it to the younger teenager.
As a result of further enquiries by the Safer Neighbourhoods team the 18-year-old man was issued with an £80 fixed penalty notice for buying alcohol for someone under the age of 18.
PC Stacey Beale, of the Hart Neighbourhood Centre, said: “By raising people’s awareness of the consequences of buying alcohol and giving it to young people we hope we can make them think twice. “The legal age limit is there for a reason and must be adhered to. Anyone who breaks the law will be dealt with robustly.”
