Detectives are appealing for witnesses after an incident in Aldershot on Saturday, July 3.
At around 11.35pm a 21-year-old woman was walking home from the town centre along Victoria Road.
As she walked into Windsor Way she noticed a man following behind her.
The man approached her and spoke to her. She ignored him and continued walking.
The man persisted and continued to follow her and she decided to turn around and run back into town.
The man ran after her and then grabbed and assaulted her. The victim screamed and a number of people came to her aid and the attacker ran off towards Crimea Road.
The victim suffered minor injuries and was badly shaken following the incident.
The man is described as:
- Aged between 25 and 30
- 5ft 4ins tall
- Straight, dark hair
- Wearing a dark long sleeved top and jeans
Detective Constable Graham Robson, of Aldershot CID, said: “This was a serious incident and although it happened late in the evening there would have been people around making their way home from the town centre.
“The victim was left very shaken up following the incident and we are appealing for witnesses to identify the man responsible.
“We want to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who saw a man matching the description in the area on Saturday night.
“We would remind everyone walking late at night to be vigilant and report any suspicious people to police.”
Hampshire Constabulary offers the following advice:
- P – Prepare. Know how you are getting home, pre-book a taxi and let someone know where you’re going. Make sure you have enough credit on your mobile phone for emergencies.
- L – Look confident. Someone clearly under the influence of alcohol looks more vulnerable.
- A – Act to avoid risk. Think twice before accepting drinks from someone you don’t know well and never accept lifts from cruising cars or cabs.
- N – Never assume it will never happen to you. Trust your instincts; they are there to warn you of danger.
