Police today named the woman who died after her mobility scooter was in collision with a Ford Focus at Gershwin Road, Basingstoke.

She is Gladys Green, 77, of Gershwin Court, Basingstoke. Mrs Green was a widow who lived alone in sheltered housing. Her husband Frederick was a retired electrician who died in May, 2006. At about 12:15 Monday, October 6, Mrs Green was crossing Gershwin Road in her scooter when she was in collision with a black Ford Focus, driven by a 22-year-old Basingstoke woman.

Mrs Green died at the scene. The car driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care and attention. She was bailed until December 17, pending further enquiries.

The driver was not injured.
