Detectives investigating the attempted murder of a woman in Aldershot have released more details.

Officers hope a description of the woman's clothing may help people recall if they saw her walking home during the early hours of Sunday, December 28.

The 21-year-old, who is white and around 5ft 6ins, was wearing blue jeans, a blue grey coloured top, a black waist length jacket, a green and black cotton scarf and distinctive striped pink, green and white pumps.

Her shoulder length brown hair was tied back and she was wearing a seashell style necklace and a beaded bracelet.

She had left a pub in Alexandra Road around midnight and walked through the town and along Redan Hill.

The attack took place in a play park just off Green Way in the North Town area and detectives can now confirm that the woman suffered a serious sexual assault.

Detective Chief Inspector Darren O'Callaghan, who is leading the inquiry, said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the woman walking through town between midnight and 12.30am.

"Was she alone? Was she being followed? Did you see anyone else acting suspiciously in the area or running away from Green Way around this time?

"I would ask anyone who has any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to contact police in confidence."

A 22-year-old man from Scotland has been arrested in connection with this incident and is currently in police custody.
