Burglaries in Fleet Area

Hampshire Police are investigating a number of dwelling burglaries that happened in the Fleet area on Wednesday 20th January 2010.

Two address in Rounton Road, Church Crookham, were targeted as was one address in Brookly Gardens, Fleet.

There was also a suspicious incident in Berkeley Close, Fleet where an address was called on during the early evening period.  The ‘youth’ who called at the address gave a story that he was looking for a football that had been kicked over into the garden of the address, when the youth was refused access to the property he got into a small car which then drove off at speed.

We are also looking for a small black vehicle that may or may not be connected to the above events.  A witness has given a possible partial registration number of Y762???

Could you please ask your members to remain vigilant for any suspicious callers or activity in the Fleet area and also for any small black vehicles that could possibly match the above.

Should anyone have any information please could they contact Hampshire Police, email address as below:

Keep vehicles secure

Police in Hart are reminding motorists to keep their vehicles secure when visiting hotels and pubs in the area.

Thieves often target vehicles left in car parks as owners often leave valuable items such as laptops and satellite navigation systems in the car.

Officers are working closely with pubs and hotels in the area to reduce vehicle crime and remind customers to look after their valuables.

PC Liz Pirie, from the Hart Impact Team, said: “We are committed to preventing and detecting vehicle crime and are working closely with the pubs and hotels in the area to make their car parks as safe as possible.

“However, this is not something we can do alone; we need the help of residents and visitors to help us discourage car criminals.

“Theft from and of a vehicle can happen to anyone and any vehicle, at any time.

“Ensure you secure your vehicle whenever you leave it, even if it’s just for a few minutes. It takes thieves seconds to break into your vehicle.

“Also, make sure items such as satellite navigation systems, including the cradle, mobile phones, audio equipment and other valuable items are not left on display. Clean the windscreen to remove any suction marks. The smallest indication that there is something worth stealing in the vehicle will encourage the thief.”

Hampshire Constabulary offers the following advice as part of its Safer Vehicles campaign:

  • Don’t leave anything in your car – if it’s not there, then it can’t be stolen

  • Thieves aren’t picky, so don’t even leave low value items – often thieves will smash and grab first and look later to see if what they’ve stolen is valuable

  • Don’t hide it – Don’t hide items under the seat or in the glove box, which is one of the first places thieves look. If you cannot avoid leaving something in your car, put it in your boot before you begin your journey

  • Protect valuable items you often take in your car by marking them with your registration number or postcode using an ultraviolet pen

  • Fit an alarm and always use it

  • Fit an immobiliser. These prevent your car from starting and are the best way to stop thieves

  • Keep your keys safe. Never leave the ignition key in your vehicle while it is unattended

  • Always try to park in a well lit, open location. If possible, use secure car parks displaying the official ‘Park Mark’ sign

  • Lock all doors, close all windows and shut the sunroof every time you leave your car – however briefly

  • If you own a high value or rare car, arrange to have a vehicle tracking system fitted

  • Use locking wheel nuts. They are cheap, easy to fit and stop thieves from taking your wheels

  • Have your vehicle’s registration number or the last seven digits of the Vehicle Identification Number etched on to all glass surfaces, including the headlights

  • Consider registering you valuables in case of loss or theft at www.immobilise.com

Elvetham Heath Burglaries

Unfortunately there have been a number of burglaries & attempted burglaries in the area, especially Elvetham Heath.

Chalk markings have appeared, apparently to indicate houses that may be vulnerable.

Thieves are looking for properties that are easily accessible & have appealing cars on the driveway or even in the garage.

They also appear to have planned out their escape routes, (M3 very close)

Do take your keys to bed with you.

Double lock your doors at night

When out, make sure your house is securely locked, including window locks.

If you see any strange marks, or anything suspicious please contact us using 999 in an emergency or 101 or 0845 0454545 at all other times.

We do not want this in our area and need everybody to be as vigilant as possible.

Graffiti Busting Week

Dear all,

Our next Graffiti Busting Week is taking place August 24th - 28th.

Graffiti Busting Week is held once a year and during the week graffiti is removed across the whole district.

The Community Safety Team only removes graffiti during this week as removal is not usually our responsibility.  Graffiti Busting Week was set up to help combat issues with graffiti on private property, which can encourage ASB and heightens the fear of crime.

Before Graffiti Busting Week we advertise the date in order to receive as many reports as possible from residents - graffiti reporting forms are made available at many outlets in the district, and our Community Support Team also hand out permission slips.

This is a highly visible initiative, which impacts greatly on the environment that we live and work in, whilst improving people's perception of crime and disorder.

During Graffiti Busting Week 2008, we received an unprecedented amount of reports, and over 100 pieces of graffiti reported were removed.  Anything remaining will be top priority for next year.

Please can you disseminate this information as you find appropriate and encourage graffiti to be reported to community-safety-team@hart.gov.uk or ring 01252 774229.

Kind regards,

Richard Denham
'Safer Hart' Partnership Officer
