Police appeal after incident in Farnborough

Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempted indecent assault in Farnborough on Thursday, December 10.

At around 4.30pm a 17-year-old girl was walking along Woburn Avenue when she was grabbed by a man who tried to pull her into some nearby bushes.

The girl elbowed the man in the stomach and managed to run off. She was not injured during the incident.

Officers believe the offence could be linked to two other similar incidents that happened in October.

The man is described as:

  • White

  • Around 5ft 10ins tall

  • Clean shaven

  • Wearing a dark coloured blue or black fleece, a dark coloured jacket, dark trousers and a beanie hat

Sergeant Chris Thoday, of the Farnborough Safer Neighbourhoods Team, said: “This incident happened at a time of day when other people would have been around.

“We want to hear from any witnesses or anyone with any other information.

“We would be particularly keen to hear from anyone who knows someone who has recently suffered an injury to their stomach.”

Hampshire Constabulary offers the following Safer Streets advice:

• You will be safest in bright, well lit and busy areas.
• Be vigilant and aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious behaviour to police.
• Try to look and act confident – look like you know where you are going.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested and bailed in connection with this incident.
